Establishment on the initiative of the Directorate-General of the pulp and paper industry of Yugoslavia with intention to promote research activities and technological development of the branch. The institute operates within the Paper mill Vevče.

Moving to a new place in Ljubljana, where it has been located up to now.

Experimental paper and coating machines started to operate. The first research for a foreign customer was performed in the same year.

By integration in a UNIDO research project, a long-term participation in important European scientific and research projects started.

After finishing the process of ownership transformation, the Chamber of Commerce became 100 % owner of ICP.
